Woman tries to kill spider, ends up blowing up own bathroom

Arachnophobia, fear of spiders and other arachnids such as scorpions. Some people seems to actually suffer from this. Like a 66-year-old Australian woman who tried to kill a spider in her bathroom one week ago, to no avail. She ended up accidentally blowing up her own bathroom!

Emergency services were called to a house in Kirribilli after an explosion blew out both bathroom and kitchen windows in a house in Sydney last Saturday. The woman saw a spider crawling around her bathroom and decided to battle the insect with insecticide. At a certain point the spider crawled under the washing machine, enough reasons for this woman to empty her can of insecticide under the washing machine, causing an explosion.

Fire investigators claim the insecticide caused a chemical reaction with the detergent which resulted in an explosion. The bathroom itself was destroyed for the most part, however the woman survived without too much injuries. It is uncertain whether the spider survived the incident or not. Let this be a warning when spider hunting in your bathroom!

  1. Well if it was an Aussie spider then it probably survived. Those things are tough. I thought the people there were used to them too and wouldn't go that far to get rid of one.
